Bangladesh Human Rights Coalition

Update: Rizwan Hussain

April 22, 2008 · 9 Comments

We have been inundated with emails. It’s great to see such support for this campaign.

We however need more signatures for the petition. Please do pass it on to all your friends and family.

I can confirm, after a conversation with Rizwan Bhai, that he is feeling better, but still trying to recover from the shock.

An unofficial source has informed us that four air force officers have been arrested in relation to this matter. We are expecting a comment from the British High Commissioner, Anwar Chawdhury, very soon.

This was a despicable act on the Bangladeshi front. This is not just Rizan’s fight for justice but for all ex pat Bangladeshi’s. What happened to all those other people who were treated in this manner and even worse? Murder took place a few years ago in the very same airport for which no justice was served!

Rizwan’s connection to Channel S has given him the upper hand in terms of gaining media support but this would not be the same case for the ordinary Bangladeshi. I totally agree that action needs to be taken against those animals for their actions.

Please show your support for brother Rizwan and the brother who was killed by the airport authorities a few years ago and maybe the unsolved airport murder case can be re-opened?

Lastly, ex pats makes Bangladesh what it has become today! Maybe the Bangladeshi government should treat us all with some dignity, respect and fairness? Reasons such as these and the social injustice deters me and many others like me travelling to BD!

    Thanks

Am ashamed to be a Bangladeshi. The country is in ruins. The sick and twisted people in BD that work in the public sector are no more than scum. Airport officials need to be sacked as they are all corrupt. If America took over the country tomorrow the country would be better off. Bangladesh has become a place for dogs where only the people in power survive and the rest just suffer in silence. The country will be under water soon anyway when the icebergs melt. No more Bangladesh. No more idiots. No more violence.

Those people who carried out the attack will be punished eventually as the government will want to set an example just to prove that justice does exist. But in the end we all know this is just a PR stunt by the Bangladeshi government to look good in front of other International leaders. Pathetic.

Chill out, Bangladesh is not that bad. The interim government have made some positive changes, that is why we must work alongside them to get answers.

Please do not make such horrific statements about the whole of Bangladesh.

its sad to hear one of our brother gets beaten up at our motherland airport and what makes it worse is rizwan brother was attackec by the officers who should be looking out for the nations security. They are an embarassment to the bangladesh and to the airforce of bangladesh. Rizwan brother get well soon. we are behind you to get justice./

First of all please do not get me wrong, i believe it is good that it happened to a well known person like Rizwan Bhai because the many cases before Rizwan bhai were unsolved and unheard, i am glad that Rizwan Bhai is still between us as now we know what has really happened.
the bangladesh govt.has put us in such situation where we are scared to go bangladesh.my parents go every year and now they are scared to go to there own country, thier motherland because there is no such guarantee it wont happen to them and my father is disabled how will my mum cope if anything happens. This has happened before where they have insulted my mother for no such reason. So all im saying is that this shouldnt be let go of, we should take action and not back down until we are heard. And please make dwu’a for Brother Rizwan.

I visited Bangladesh with my family, wife and baby couple years ago. And being abused at the airport was my main concern. The inward journey was fine (if we leave out the 3 hour wait for the connecting flight, and pestering of money exchange touts, the back handers to the officials).

On the way back I was separated from the rest of the passangers at Zia Airport and was left along in the arrival lounge. Everyone else was taken to their hotel for overnight stay to get the flight to UK in the morning.

Thankfully I knew someone at sylhet airport when my flight to dhaka arrived from and he told me the name of the hotel the rest of the passangers were staying at. So I asked to be taken there.

As my luck would have it, I was again alone on the bus to the hotel. Just myself with the wife and baby. It was a most frightening experience. The stories of all the abuses were running in my mind.

Alhamdhulillah I got to the hotel safely and since I am here to write about it, made it safely back to UK.

Why am I telling everyone this?

Well its because things should not be like that. Why should someone feel fearful of returning to their own homeland. Why should those who live abroad be put off visiting their homeland because of some uncivilised individuals. Those who live abroad make a much needed contribution to the survival of their reletives and also through investsments help the economy. If the people in charge had any sense they would treat expatriates with much respect and care.

I have already e-mailled the British High Comission in Bangladesh and signed the petition.

I am also going to be writing the the Bangladeshi High Comission in UK.

Also I am going to write any other human rights organisation I can find such as Amnesty and Liberty.

I would like to urge everyone to take action so that we no longer have to fearful of returning to our homeland.

Rakib, many thanks for your detialed explanations. Myself and my family go to Bangladesh on a regular basis. We have had bad experience too. As soon as we enter the airport building (either arrival or departure) problem starts. We just starts taking Allah’s name.

I do 100% agree with you. We all must start writing to British High Comission in Bangladesh, Bangladeshi High Comission in UK and other important places.

They will be forced to improve the situation. Enough is enough. This can not continue any longer. Last resorts will be, all Bangladeshi living in Uk and abroad will boycott Sonali Bank & Biman. Well this will be the exrtreme measures. Hope Bangladesh Government will not force us to go that far.
